背光是什么？背光”也稱(chēng)“光背”，背光和坐臺一樣，同樣是銅雕佛像組成不可分離的部分，背光一般在佛和菩薩的頭部和身后，銅佛像背光是一種象征，因此，他是銅佛本體的一部分。

銅佛像的背光的形式種類(lèi)很多。從外形來(lái)分有：圓形背光，輪型背光，船型背光，珠寶型背光，蓮瓣型背光，光頭身光背光，放射型背光等。

銅佛像背光從內容和紋飾來(lái)分有：唐草光，飛天光，云頭光，千佛光，五佛光，七佛光，火焰光，五龍二鳳光，七龍二鳳光，也有云頭，火焰，唐草，飛天，佛龍，鳳等綜合性背光。

一般來(lái)說(shuō)，銅佛像有頭光和身光，菩薩沒(méi)有身光只有頭光，羅漢與弟子則沒(méi)有背光，而護法諸神中的明王一類(lèi)，鑒于裝飾的需要，結合其忿怒的臉像，故其背后常飾以狀似忿怒的火焰光來(lái)表示。
